I remember seeing the Ritz burn down

I am 65 years old now and remember seeing the Ritz burn down along
with my friends from Chapelhay. My Mum and her friend and my Uncle
worked at the Ritz before the war.
My friend and I attended the opening night at the Pavilion Ballroom
(we must have been about 18 or 19), think it was Cyril Stapleton and
his band. The children might like to know in those days one of the
top ballroom dancers was Harry Smith-Hampshire and his partner
Doreen. She wore that night a beautiful limegreen dress, but was a
bit more covered up than the dancers on BBC Come Dancing!! Over the
years we had many famous dance bands and the ballroom was always packed.
