Children discuss Weymouth Pavilion with residents at Ladymeads
Tuesday, March 13, 2007
Today, Tuesday the 13th March, we visited Ladymead Sheltered Housing scheme, to find out if they knew anything about Weymouth Pavilion. We chatted with residents and visitors to Ladymeads coffee morning. Then we all looked at pictures and books as residents and visitors shared their memories.
Only some knew information, or had any memories of the Pavilion. Those that did we interviewed to record their memories onto tape for our DVD. Karen said, “We would like to hear of your experiences and memories of the Pavilion. As we all know soon this building will not be there; your experience of last years Christmas Panto is as important to us as having visited the Ritz.”
Eloise asked if they had seen any shows. She added, “some of them knew about the Ritz and some just about the Pavilion. I also asked them if they had roller skates as we have found out that they used to roller skate behind the Ritz.”
Lauren, said; “I asked if they knew when the Pavilion burnt down.” Courtney, asked a lady about the Ritz, she told us that she was 35 when it burnet down. That she was working in Weymouth eye infirmary and she could see the smoke across the beach. That is was a spectacular sight, but very sad.”
Jamie told us how he had talked to George about the buses. Jamie added, “He gave me a photo of old buses from the 1940s. Another man let me look at his old buses.”
Elliott says: “I enjoyed filming and liked having my photo taken for the paper. We are really enjoying chatting to people about the past.” We all found out things we didn’t know before, thank you Ladymead.
We are interested in all your memories. If you would like to be interviewed or have any photographs, please contact us.
